My TNA Pick: W.H.A.S.

Super props to David Wain and Michael Showalter for co-writing/co-producing, and for giving me an interview (see next issue)! Wain (who directs) and Showalter (who stars) have rejoined many of their former castmates from MTV's (hilarious, canceled) sketch comedy series, THE STATE.

Showalter shines as the smitten "Coop," in love with fellow counselor, "Katie" (Marguerite Moreau). Equally fantastic is Paul Rudd as the camp's counselor with attitude, "Andy," and Amy Poehler as "Susie," the hyperactive drama coach. Not to mention Ken Marino, whose character, "Victor," meets the films TNA requirement, as a frantic virgin counselor who abandons his charges in the woods to race back to the "sure thing" waiting at camp (Marisa Ryan).

According to Wain, that was based on a true story.

A hit at Sundance, WHAS has been playing in NYC for a month or so, and is slowly being released across the U.S. See the website for release dates and locations.
