INTERVIEW:
Sparks

Ron and Russell

kp: Who would win in a fight between Sparks and the original lineup of Roxy Music?
R/RM:
We would kick their asses. Check out the cover of our "Plagiarism."

kp: Ron, do you really play golf or are you just inspired by it's awesome fashion trends?
Ron:
I don't play golf. I'm just inspired by awful fashion trends.

kp: Following your appearance in "Rollercoaster," have you ever considered starring in your own movie? Perhaps a "buddy cop" movie?
R/RM:
Hundreds of scripts have come through to us since "Rollercoaster." So many in fact, that we are just now getting through them all and trying to make a decision on our follow-up film.

kp: You've had a lot of different band members over the years. Has this made it difficult to maintain a "sound" or does your personal vision mold musicians to your musical whim?
R/RM:
Our personal vision is very strong so I think anyone joining our band is aware of that and wants to be a part of that. We are sort of like Cuba today: liberal as far as dictatorships go.

kp: Did you buy the sequined "Angst in My Pants" suits off the rack or were those made to order?
R/RM:
All made to order. 'Target' was all out of my size.

kp: Which is your favorite Sparks album?
R/RM:
Our new album.

kp: What do we have to look forward to with the new album?
R/RM:
[It] should be out in mid-October. It is completely without precedent in pop music. It is not one of those albums that you say is a cross between this and that. It's a cross between nothing. Boastful words?? You may hate it, but it's completely in its own unique world. We ain't lazy.

Thanks to Ron and Russell Mael for the interview, and extra thanks to SPARKS' drummer, Tammy Glover, for helping facilitate things! Check out the new album, and keep an eye on SPARKS at their official website.
