Joe Bob Briggs
Part II: The Return of Joe Bob

We wanted to kick off our 20th issue with a little time travel back to our humble beginnings. Back in Issue 4, I was lucky enough to be granted an interview with a hero of mine: B-movie critic, fountain of knowledge, and wearer of bolo ties, Joe Bob Briggs. Two years have passed, and I've been since inspired to interview more heroes, but you know, you always remember your first. Ladies and gentlemen: Joe Bob Briggs.

kp: So it’s been like 2 years since our first interview. Seems like yesterday, no?
jbb:
Yes, because Kittenpants is eternal.

kp: When we talked last, TNT had just cancelled MONSTERVISION and you didn’t have any current plans to return to television. Has anything changed in that department?
jbb:
I'm shooting a pilot for a new TV show next month, but at this point everything has to stay hush-hush. It's not strictly movies, although movies will be a part of it.

kp: You’ve been doing a ton of writing these days. What can you tell us about “Profoundly Disturbing”?
jbb:
The full title is "Profoundly Disturbing: Shocking Movies That Changed History," and it will be out in April. It's basically just extensive essays on movies that I find fascinating for one reason or another--and that did change the way we think.

kp: I see you’ve made a movie with Tippi Hedren—what was that like?
jbb:
Well, that was one of the lowest budget movies in the history of the world, and I doubt it will ever be seen in America, but Tippi Hedren is one of my favorite people, even though I've only been around her for a total of two days. She was a guest on "MonsterVision" when we showed "The Birds," and despite my efforts to draw her out on the subject of just how Hitchcock hit on her, she remained classy and elegant about the whole thing.

kp: Any more movies in the near future?
jbb:
Nope. I stopped auditioning. I'm a terrible auditioner and just hate the process. Besides which, I get antsy and bored on movie sets. Too much sitting around. I much prefer TV.

kp: Where do you hang your hat these days? Texas? New York? El Lay? Or are you a traveling cowboy?
jbb:
New York mostly, although I spend a lot of time in Texas as well.

kp: Have you been watching any television? And did you see the Anna Nicole show? Sheesh!
jbb:
Hey, I'm one of the defenders of Anna Nicole's show. I think the great thing about it is, "Hey, America, love reality shows? Here's some goldurn in-your-face reality!"

kp: If you were going to audition for “American Idol” what song would you sing?
jbb:
"Move It On Over" by Hank Williams.

kp: Why are they building more Olive Gardens in NYC?
jbb:
They're building Olive Gardens in New York? I can't believe that. I love Italian food, therefore I hate the Olive Garden.

kp: What’s the last book you read?
jbb:
"The Case Against Lawyers" by Catherine Crier.

kp: First concert you ever attended?
jbb:
Fleetwood Mac.

kp: First album you ever purchased?
jbb:
Something by the Beatles.
