INTERVIEW:
Tim DeLaughter of THE POLYPHONIC SPREE

Toby Halbrook

kp: Tell us a story! What's been the most interesting crowd to play for?
td:
I would have say Tokyo, Japan. Our sound check was at 7:30 in the morning. We went on at 10:00am. The place was packed with around 30,000 people, and they went nuts for us. It totally shocked us. They were singing and waving their arms in the air like we were Bon Jovi.

kp: Who has been the most fun to tour with?
td:
We did an NME tour with Interpol, The Datsuns and The Thrills that was a lot of fun--a very interesting bill, indeed. We really like having Corn Mo out with us as well, cause he ROCKS, and he makes me want to sing better than I do, which is nice for everybody.

cm: What's your favorite Sid and Marty Kroft show?
td:
I liked a lot of them but my favorite was H.R.Pufinstuffffffffff.

kp: What do you think about the VW/iPod commercial?
td:
I think it's awesome. I had no idea how huge the commercial was going to be. It's everywhere all the time. It's cool that our name is on the screen, if you look fast enough. The size of our group is financially exhausting to exist, so we need all the help we can get.

kp: With everyone making "cult" insinuations, have you considered passing out small cups of Kool-Aid to an audience, just for laughs?
td:
Oh yes, many times. And we will as soon as we have our own flavor made.

kp: Which member of the Spree has the smelliest feet?
td:
Julie or Jessica probably.

kp: Makes the best pie?
td:
Me. I make a great Key Lime.

kp: Takes the longest in the shower?
td:
Michael Turner for sure.

kp: Snores the loudest on the bus?
td:
Chris Penn, hands down.

kp: Tells the best jokes?
td:
Audrey E.

kp: Can drink the most beer?
td:
Ricky R.

kp: Gets the most "action"?
td:
I do not know that one.

kp: Jumps the highest on stage?
td:
Probably Toby.

kp: Speaking of which, while watching you guys, I was sometimes nervous that Toby was going to jump up and land directly on the theremin. Have there been any accidents resulting from so much equipment and people on stage?
td:
Yes, quite a few busted lips and bruised egos.
