INTERVIEW: Brian Posehn

METAL

The Metal Section

bf: So, Anthrax and you are tight. Are you more of a Joey or Jon fan? Is it sort of like Roth vs. Hagar, or do they both rock equally hard?
bp:
I love them both. My two favorite records are Among the Living and the last one, We’ve Come for you All. I liked Neil Turbin first, the singer on Fistful of Metal. I like the band so much I’d probably be an Anthrax fan no matter who they had up front.

bf: Man, what was up with Dave Lombardo leaving Slayer, getting married, and cutting his hair off?
bp:
I don’t know.

bf: Were you worried that it was going to be some sort of Samson & Delilah thing and he would lose his double-bass speed?
bp:
No, were you?

bf: I was psyched when he returned in full glory, double-kicking his way to the heart of every true metal warrior.
bp:
He’s one of my favorites. I mean people, not just drummers. He’s one of my favorite humans.

bf: I say Metallica fell off after Master of Puppets, and that and justice... was the beginning of the end (overproduced and under-rocked.) When do you think they stopped truly bringing the heat?
bp:
I like the Black album, but I love Justice. I don’t know what happened. It still hurts too much to think about it. They still rip live.

bf: Is it just me, or do Dave and Megadeth always seem to be trying a little bit too hard?
bp:
It’s just you. I’m a huge Mustaine fan.

bf: Is it possible that the black metallers all perished in a giant fire-pit in Norway?
bp:
No.

bf: How come no one is waiting for a King Diamond reunion tour?
bp:
No one? Speak for yourself.

bf: Is Udo from Accept the metal version of Mini-me?
bp:
More like the metal version of Patton Oswalt.

bf: Did you ever have any Dokken records?
bp:
Yep, a couple. Only the good ones.

bf: What metal band are you ashamed to say you were once excited about?
bp:
Dokken. Savatage, Dangerous Toys.

bf: I remember being stoked on White Wolf for about 30 seconds, and I don't like bringing that up very often.
bp:
White wolf? Wow, you know your shit. Literally.
